Lava stone jewellery
Using Lava Stone from Mount Etna in Italy
In the 19th Century Italian jewellers started using a new material, "lava stone" from Vesuvius, to make cameos which were different and original.
The volcanic rock was easily engraved to make these high relief objects which gave a dramatic effect thanks to the nuances of grey, brown and white of the rock.

Making Lava Stone Jewellery
The process used to make lava-stone objects today is somewhat different and more complicated.
The volcanic rock is melted at a very high temperature and then moulded mixing 10% resin to hold the compound together. The resins used are hypo-allergenic and the volcanic rock is a natural stone, thus making the jewellery 100% environmentally friendly.
The beads and objects obtained are of a striking black and soft to the touch. They are then combined with hallmarked sterling silver and /or semi-precious stones to create unique
and exquisite jewellery pieces.
